Education
Dr. Swartz’s academic pursuits began at Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C., where he earned an Associate’s Degree in Interpretation & Transliteration, followed by dual Bachelor’s Degrees in Psychology and Theatre: Production & Performance. His thirst for knowledge led him to Loyola College in Baltimore, Maryland, where he achieved a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology and a Post-Masters Certification in Substance Abuse. His academic journey culminated at Capella University in Minneapolis, Minnesota, with a Doctorate in Organization and Management.
Teaching Experience
Dr. Swartz has been instrumental in shaping the future of American Sign Language (ASL) and interpreter training. He has served as an Adjunct Faculty at institutions like Yavapai College, Community College of Philadelphia, and Gwynedd-Mercy College. His roles have encompassed curriculum development, electronic classroom creation, digital testing material formulation, and much more.
Private Sector Experience
In the realm of interpretation, Dr. Swartz has been a beacon of professionalism. He has worked with numerous VRI agencies, interpreting on platforms like Zoom, Teams, and Google Meet. His expertise spans from being a staff ASL interpreter at Yavapai College to founding and directing 360 Translations International and Professional Interpreter Exchange.
Community Service Experience
Beyond his professional commitments, Dr. Swartz has been a pillar in the community. He provided counseling services at the Chase-Brexton Clinic in Mount Vernon, Maryland, assisting HIV positive clients facing socio-economic barriers.

Dr. Swartz’s contributions to academia are evident in his extensive list of publications and presentations. His research topics range from job satisfaction among interpreters for the deaf, to burnout among sign language interpreters, to abuse among the Deaf population, and substance abuse in the Deaf population.

A true advocate for the deaf community, Dr. Swartz has been actively involved in organizations like the New Jersey Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf and the Pennsylvania Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf. He has held significant positions, including Chair of the National Publications Committee for the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf.

He holds certifications like the Educational Interpreter: K-12 (ED:K-12) and the Specialty Certification: Legal (SC:L) from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID), as well as the Oregon Certified Healthcare Interpreter (OCHI) certificate
